"And the César goes to..."

Les César 2014 -1

On Friday 28 February, everybody who is anybody in French cinema met at the Théâtre du Châtelet for the 39th César Awards. For the second year running, we have helped KM and Canal + to capture the evening that awards the best in the seventh art on camera.

An exceptional evening, exceptional equipment

Canal+ is mobilising its network to broadcast the most prestigious ceremony in French cinema. If our Millénium 8 OB Truck ensured the ceremony was captured on camera, our Extender 1 OB Truck was in charge of the Avant-César programme. This took place in a link-up with Le Grand Journal, filmed in our Studios Rive Gauche (Paris, 15th arrondissement). In total, 5 hours of live, unscrambled programming was broadcast on Canal +.

Camera....

The Avant-César show kicked off this exceptional evening. In our Extender 1, OB Truck, Didier Froehly produced this particular broadcast, followed by the link-up with Le Grand Journal from our Studios Rive Gauche. The link-up was guaranteed thanks to our complete control of a full RF network using the high point of the Tour Montparnasse, limiting broadcasting delays to a few milliseconds. During the Avant-César, 6 cameras, including 3 RF cameras, were dotted throughout the Théâtre du Châtelet. A studio at the entrance to the theatre allowed Laurent Weil and his team to give a running commentary as the artists arrived, and to gather their first impressions.

... Action

Our Extender 1 OB Truck then handed over to our Millénium 8, which produced the 39th César Ceremony, under the stewardship of Jérôme Revon. He had 15 cameras at his disposal, including 10 Sony HDC 2400 cameras and 5 Sony HDC 1500s. A crane, a Buggy motorised camera, a beauty camera and a camera head were just part of the range of video equipment was on a par with the range of stars at the event, both French and international (Scarlett Johansson and Quentin Tarantino being particularly notable by their presence), that we had the honour of capturing on camera. In total, our team of nearly thirty technicians was busy behind the scenes, adapting both to the location and to the gravitas required at such a ceremony.

Distinctions and elegance

The 39th César Ceremony opened with François Cluzet as chair, and presented for the first time by a new mistress of ceremonies, the wonderful Cécile de France. The film Me, Myself and Mum was the big winner of the 39th edition, taking home 5 awards including Best Actor and Best Film.
