Dakar: the iconic adventure

dakar 2014 5 bis

The world's most famous rally roars through some of the most hostile and savagely beautiful landscapes on its way around Chile from Argentina, via Bolivia. This year once again, AMP Visual TV was there to provide on-board images and exceptional footage for France Télévisions.

Start your engines for the Dakar Rally

ASO trusted us yet again to provide the on-board images for the Dakar Rally. Cameras fitted to motorbikes, cars, buggies, and trucks offer a unique vantage point over the race.

France Télévisions goes all in

For several years, France Télévisions has been an essential partner in broadcasting the Dakar Rally in France. We support the state-owned group by hosting all of its special broadcasts in our OB Truck. Every day, we provide the live broadcast of "Dakar", shown on France 4 at 6.40pm, as well as the "Journal du Dakar", shown on France 3 at 8.05pm. We also record the "Bivouac" show live for broadcast on France 2's late night programming.

Imagination

In order to ensure that our equipment is safe from the sand and dust that gets everywhere along the course, we chose a refrigerated truck for our OB team. The truck featured a 100% airtight seal.

A taste for adventure

We sent a team of 18 people to follow the race. For three weeks, their life was structured around the special editions, and they travelled to the next stage every night. Some of the team worked shifts to install the on-board cameras that were transferred to a new vehicle at the end of every stage. This meant that our team had to wait for everyone to complete the stage, sometimes finishing work very late at night. For our team, Dakar is more than just another job, in that it is all about living together, travelling every day, and technical demands in unique locations. It is a delicious blend that makes the Dakar a real adventure.
