Bivouac at the Dakar 2013
The Dakar - a legendary race in exceptional conditions, and a true sporting and televisual challenge. For many years, AMP VISUAL TV has participated in the broadcast of the world's most famous rally. Once again, another of our RF teams travelled to Peru this year to the race's start line.
During each stage, they equipped an average of four cars, three trucks and three motorbikes with on-board cameras. Each day, five of these on-board cameras were moved to different vehicles to capture a multitude of angles during the race. A helicopter fitted with a Wescam ball camera filmed a live aerial view of the finish line each day. And as in previous years, we provided the France Télévisions studio for Le Dakar, broadcast live every day on France 4, Le Journal du Dakar broadcast daily on France 3, and Bivouac and L'Image du Jour broadcast on France 2. For these programmes, we constructed our control desk in a refrigerated truck. Not because of the heat, though of course temperatures climb high in the desert, but the main problem for technical equipment is the sand, which gets everywhere. The refrigerated truck provides reliable weatherproofing, reassuring the whole team that the organisation and energy invested would not be destroyed by a grain of sand. The 2013 rally ended on Saturday 19th January in Santiago de Chile after 14 stages travelling through Peru, Argentina and Chile.
