On-board cameras : putting you in the driving seat
In rally racing, the drivers' sensations are multiplied by the speed and difficulties of the course; on-board cameras put viewers in the driving seat and let them experience the race from the cockpit. The AMP Visual TV group has been offering this service for several years and is constantly innovating.
The RF department of the AMP Visual TV group is highly involved in rally specials around the world. Recently, 10 cars were equipped with on-board cameras for the Zlin rally in the Czech Republic for the 9th IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) race. The miniature cameras installed inside the cars bring the course to life from inside, with images that stay clear despite the bumps and vibrations. These images were used by Eurosport, who broadcast the event.
From 11 to 18 September, the AMP Visual TV group was travelling around Russia filming the second Silk Way Rally, a cross-country rally that is a lead-up to the Dakar 2011. Several cars and racing trucks were equipped with on-board cameras. You can imagine the breathtaking and sensational images from the driver's seat as the car climbs a dune at full speed !
The RF department of the AMP Visual TV Group have become experts in this technology and are constantly innovating to be able to offer smaller and smaller cameras with better and better definition.
The next event is the Scottish rally from 15th or 17 October.
