[VIDEO] AMP VISUAL TV at 24 Hours of Le Mans 2015: 10 years of working and innovating with the ACO
The 2015 edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans marked the 10th year of collaboration between AMP VISUAL TV and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). 10 years of major innovations in broadcasting one of the most famous races in the world. The 83rd running of the event signed the debut of the second screen and some outstanding on-board footage.
In 2015, AMP VISUAL TV used a new and innovative technical setup for televising the event. A total of 95 cameras followed the race, including 7 remote cameras in the pits, one running overhead for tens of metres along a wire over the pits, one mounted on a helicopter and another on a quad bike to get even closer to the action. 18 cars taking part in the race were fitted with 3 or 4 cameras, thanks to a new control unit developed by AMP VISUAL TV, giving total immersion and allowing viewers to experience the race from the driver's seat. For the first time in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the same coverage was possible both night and day. Brilliant new, live, night-time footage that particularly impressed overseas broadcast customers.
The international feed shown by TV channels around the world was handled by AMP VISUAL TV's 5 OB trucks. A further 4 of the company's trucks in the Outside Broadcast area were used by Eurosport International, Eurosport France and Quest TV. In all, some 30 channels broadcast the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 190 countries. That is a potential audience of 802 million viewers, able to enjoy the buzz of the FIA's flagship World Endurance Championship event.
This year, viewers could follow the race and go behind the scenes on the second screen, thanks to 24H inside, Web TV and the official 24 Hours of Le Mans app. AMP VISUAL TV provided the integral live streaming and additional video for the app. Thanks to the many video sources available, viewers were able to produce their own - live - coverage, thanks to never-before-seen levels of customisation. The 24 Hours of Le Mans app can be downloaded from the AppStore or Google Play, whilst Web TV is available at www.24h-lemans.com.
Alongside the extraordinary technical achievement at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, there was also a great human story involving over 200 AMP VISUAL TV staff working to broadcast the event on TV.
Faultless organisation and coordination with ACO staff was the key to making it a success once again - for the 10th year running.
Gilles Sallé, CEO of AMP VISUAL TV, acknowledged the achievement: "We are very proud to play a part in such a great event. The last 10 years of working closely with the ACO have enabled us to reach the highest level of motorsport broadcasting. Our teams and equipment are behind the coverage seen around the world of many championships in over 40 countries. The 24 Hours of Le Mans event not only drives the latest innovations, but is a reflection of them in use".
