Footage of the first ever 100% electric aircraft to cross the Channel

106 years after Louis Blérot, the first man to cross the Channel in a plane, Didier Esteyne becomes the first to do so in a fully electric aircraft: the E-FAN. The French pilot and designer made the 43.5 mile crossing in July, in only 36 minutes.

To capture footage to be broadcast the world over, we installed two different set-ups. For take-off in Lydd (UK), the IXI LIVE PROD 1 OB TRUCK provided both filming (6 cameras) and satellite transmission. The Millenium 2 and IXI 3 OB Trucks were ready in Calais with six cameras and a duplex system between Newport, Lydd, Calais, and Lille.

Of course, the flight could also be watched from the air via our RF systems on board a helicopter that followed the electric aircraft.
