The 24 Hours of Le Mans 2010
Once again, the AMP VISUAL TV Group was highly involved in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The technical means put in place are more and more impressive as each year goes by.
The Le Mans 24 Hour race is an exceptional, indeed legendary, event in the auto-mobile racing season. For the 2010 race, VISUAL TV deployed 180 technicians around the track for a week.
An exceptional event calls for exceptional facilities, and each year our teams manage to provide ever-more complete services while optimising the use of the resources.
For the first time in its history, the race was filmed in HD. This year, thanks to our technical command of RF and fibre optic solutions gained over five years, we produced the broadcast from a single OB production van (the Enterprise). Its two control rooms shared the production of filming from the pits and the fully-dressed international programme. Alongside, slow motions were specially produced in a "close-up" van; the images from all twenty on-board cameras and RF cameras were received in the RF OB van.
This year, VISUAL TV's RF team fitted out 7 race cars (Peugeot, Audi and BMW) with two RF cameras. Our fibre optic system makes it possible to use these images throughout the race, without interruption, since they are not serviced by an aerial relay.
At the same time, Car 9 ensured the private broadcast for Eurosport and Car H that of the Peugeot team. Simultaneously, we supplied a large quantity of specific signals in response to requests from different teams or the organizers as well as services for broadcasters.
VISUAL TV's expertise is broadly recognised today since we are present at all the events in the "Le Mans Series", the "24 hours of SPA", the Dakar and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) season.
