Special editions in Dakar

A global event with 15 days of competition in the world's most striking desert scenery and featuring amateur and professional competitors from over 50 countries, the Dakar Rally is a unique sporting and human adventure. It is both a challenge and a source of pride for the teams at AMP VISUAL TV to be involved in this formidable saga. Every year, our teams of technicians demonstrate their dedication by suggesting ever more innovative strategies for bringing this fine rally to life in images.

For this year's rally, we sent a dedicated unit, refitted for the occasion. The unit would manage the 14 complete on-board camera systems, and provide live coverage for France Télévisions. The on-board camera systems were extremely innovative, featuring the TS2 box. This box, developed internally by AMP VISUAL TV, is used to catalyse, in addition to the on-board footage, a major body of data concerning the vehicle to which it is fitted, from its GPS location to its speed, making use of refined racing analysis and telemetric data. It forms a powerful tool for enriching TV content. Jérémy Cabello, Motorsports RF Manager, told us that "it is the first time that we have used TS2, which is a real advantage for viewers".

In addition to the technical innovation, we must also applaud the determination and organisation skills of the team on the ground, who worked in extreme conditions without missing a beat. Hats off.
