Pole position at the WTCC
The 2013 WTCC season revved up at Monza in Italy on 23 March. We were there with Eurosport, the championship producer, to film the world touring car championship. Our Millennium 1was mobilised to provide the international signal for the seven races held throughout Europe, Morocco, and Russia. For the rest of the championship, our expertise in on-board cameras meant that we were responsible for all those used in the race.
The 2013 WTCC season revved up at Monza in Italy on 23 March. We were there with Eurosport, the championship producer, to film the world touring car championship. Our Millenium 1 was mobilised to provide the international signal for the seven races held throughout Europe, Morocco, and Russia. For the rest of the championship, our expertise in on-board cameras meant that we were responsible for all those used in the race.
Our video set-up is adapted to each course to provide the best possible immages for a given race. On average, we use 14 track-side cameras depending on the course, 2 HF cameras in the paddock/pit lane, 24 on-board cameras (3 cameras in 8 cars), 4 hand cameras, and, as required, a crane and one remote camera.
The 24 on-board cameras are fed back to a dedicated production van that transfers the 8 signals to the Millenium 1 (1 signal/equipped car). We also fit out on average 3 commentator stations: one in English, one in French, and one for the host country. In total, the Millenium 1 handles over 30 different sources for use in the production by Olivier Denis.
Just as for the Le Mans 24 Hours, for each track we set up a fibre-optic circuit used in communications between cameras and the TV Compound for both images and data. Almost 4 miles of fibre-optics are used for each race. In addition to secure data, this also provides great savings on transmissions.
The WTCC is broadcast live on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.
After Monza and Marrakech, the chamionship will head to Slovakia, not far from the capital, Bratislava.
